Projects

Over the past three weeks, I've slowly been working on a few projects. I really thought of get them done this summer, but we traveled WAY more than I thought we would--lots of baseball and cabin time!
Eddy's birthday present last year from his parents was having his dad redo the railing on our lower deck. Since he used green treated wood, we needed to wait until this summer to stain it. I would still like to stain the deck boards again, but I don't think you'd be able to see a difference unless you were up close.

Then the weeds behind the swing set were taking over and it was difficult to stand behind Piper to push her on the swing! I forgot to take a before picture, but here's after I pulled weeds out.

I decided to continue the landscape timbers that were already there, to finish off the border from the groomed yard to "the woods". After pulling weeds and roots, putting timbers in, laying down landscape fabric and cedar chips over that, making a rock border between the chips and woods, and transplanting a LOT of ground cover plants I got from a coworker, this is the final result!

Here's the before and after pictures of our front door after a new color of paint.

A few days after Eddy left this summer, I pulled the cranberry colored indoor/outdoor carpet off of our front steps. He wasn't happy because he like the carpet, but it was new when we moved in, but after 4 years of wear and tear, I think it was ratty looking. Here's the picture I texted Eddy after my handywork!

I was planning on taking the carpet off and staining the wood underneath. However, the wood was in really bad shape. So, for Eddy's birthday present this year, we bought wood and his dad replaced the steps!
The kids "helped" Papa. To our surprise, there were concrete steps underneath. We considered just using the concrete step, but they were really steep and the platform up by the door was not very deep.

It took some reconfiguring and we added another stair tread.

I need to restain the railing. Next spring I'll stain the new wood. I think it looks great!
