Como Park & Zoo

Last year we had two opportunities to visit Como and we wanted to be sure to get there again this summer. It is such a great place! We turned it into our own little celebration for Piper's birthday. Unfortunately she was too small for all but one ride, but I think she had fun watching her brother and looking at all the animals!

This was before the ride worker told me that Piper couldn't sit on my lap...
...and this was after having to move her off my lap. :)
On our way to see Mommy's favorite animals (the flamingos, of course)!
Isaac had a blast at the 'driving school'!
Piper gets a better view on Daddy's shoulders.
I'm not sure why we brought the stroller. Piper had no interest in riding in it. At least she helped push it, though!
Our one attempt at a family picture (just pretend like Piper's not trying to get off my lap)!

Our Baby Girl is Two!!

At 1:12pm on June 14, Piper Isabelle turned two. Where did the time go?! Earlier in the day, I was reminding Eddy what was happening at that particular moment in time two years ago: 7:30am, Eddy's dad called to tell us that Madilynn was born [Eddy's brother's daughter] and me trying not to sound like I was having contractions...9:15am, deciding that now would be a good time for Papa to come pick up Isaac...11:40am, feeling like I was going to throw up and realizing that I may be further along in labor than I had initially thought...11:50am, Eddy calling Nurse On Line to tell them I was in labor and me not being able to talk to the nurse due to contractions...12:18pm, in the car on the way to the hospital...12:33pm, getting checked in at the ER...12:58pm, having a contraction that caused me to say "I can't do this anymore"...12:59pm, my water broke...1:00pm, getting 'checked' for the first time and the nurse calling on the call light "I need help in here, this baby is coming"...1:12pm Piper Isabelle arrives 40 minutes after arriving at the hospital and after three pushes.

I couldn't tell you how many times I said "oh my God" after she was born! So many emotions--She arrived 10 days early. I went through labor and delivery without medical intervention, just like we had planned on. A GIRL!! I was so convinced we were having a Cooper James. Looking at Eddy's face and seeing such excitement. I had 'Isabelle' picked out for YEARS as my favorite girls name. But the day before she was born, I brought up 'Piper' as an option. Eddy loved the name and immediately after she was born, said "she's 'Piper Isabelle'!!!". I told him I needed some time; it was such a change...and a GIRL! I wasn't prepared for that! She went unnamed for three hours, and then, it was decided, our little 6 pound 11.5 ounce baby girl was Piper Isabelle. Will her birth day ever get fuzzy in my mind? With Isaac being almost 5, I can say that his birth is just as clear. I pray that it forever stays that way. Thinking about my children's arrival into this world brings me to tears. They are such gifts. I am so grateful to God for the honor to be their mother.

She has changed so much since her first birthday, yet looking back, I should've seen the writing on the wall: she was going to be one opinionated little girl. And, so it is. At two, Piper is a spunky little girl. She prefers to pick out her own outfit and if you make her wear something she doesn’t want to, there’s likely to be a full-on tantrum. With that though, she is very polite. Please, thank you, excuse me, and bless you have been in her vocabulary for quite a while. She learns new words every day and has some 4-word sentences. She is very active and loves to go down the swing set slide by herself. Having an older brother to watch has certainly made a difference! She and Isaac get along very well. Watching them dance in the living room together is a sight to see! Her hair is getting so long. We do ponytails and braids often. No first haircut yet. I just can’t bring myself to do it! She had her 2 year well child check last week. She is 24 pounds, 6.4 ounces, which puts her in the 20th percentile for weight. And she’s 34 ¾ inches tall, putting her in the 70th percentile. She’s tall and lean…and will be even more so once the diapers are done for good! She got new undies for her birthday and has been fairly successful at daycare using the potty. Done with diapers by the end of summer?! We’re hoping!

We celebrated her big day several different times. First, at the cabin she got a lemon cupcake with lemon frosting and opened presents from her great aunt and uncle and great grandparents. The next day we celebrated with my parents at the cabin. She loved blowing out the candles! A few days later, we crossed paths with Auntie Lindsey and Uncle Paul, so she got to open a few more presents. And last but not least, the Morgans celebrated by gathering to watch Piper and Madilynn open their gifts. Whew! Needless to say, she's got the hang of opening presents!

Happy 2nd Birthday, Sweetie Pie!

Summer's Here!

We finally had a great sunny day today! Eddy and I did some outside work, but also took time to relax and have fun with the kids. We went to a local bar and grill for supper that we haven't been to before--we'll go back sometime. Then we headed to the Lakewalk and got ice cream at the Malt Shoppe then went for a walk.
Waiting for our ice cream...

We hope for many more days like today!

Busy Weekend

It was a busy weekend at our house! We actually had two nice days in Duluth, so Eddy and I took advantage. We scraped and stained out upper deck and stairs. The lower deck will be done after the railing is re-done (Eddy's early bday present from his parents!). Wish I would have taken a "before" picture!

Eddy decided to rip out the half-dead cedar shrubs in front of our front window. We had taken out the ones on the edge last summer--deer have destroyed them. I bought some new shrubs (supposedly that the deer don't like) and we put them in, as well as redistributed the rocks. I put in some petunias that should cascade down the window box. Again, no "before" picture, but it still looks good!

Isaac and our neighbor friend had their first lemonade stand of the season! They were selling iced tea this time. Isaac adores his friend, and it seems to be mutual.

Last but not least, I've been able to French braid Piper's hair! I get her to sit still by telling her how pretty it looks!
