Ultrasound

We had an ultrasound of baby #2 on Wednesday. First and foremost, although I feel this baby bump is growing much quicker than it did with Isaac, I was very reassured to see that there was only ONE baby in there! The tech we had was great. She'd point out body parts and giggle with us when the baby would move. I would feel the baby kick, and then a second later you could see the kick on the screen. Eddy and I both felt that we saw things more clearly than we did with the ultrasound of Isaac. And no, we did not find out the sex! You'll just have to wait 20 more weeks to find out!

Here's a side profile (head on the right, butt on the left, left arm on the bottom, and the legs bending up the left side)

This is the top of the head, with the hand in a fist by its mouth

The baby weighs 12 ounces and baby's size correlates to my due date of June 24. I had an OB appointment on Friday. I got confirmation that everything on the ultrasound is ok. Heart rate is in the 140s and I'm measuring right at 19 weeks. Isaac was with me, so it was fun to see his head turn quickly and his ears perk up when he heard the baby's heartbeat. He said a phrase we'be been hearing often: "what's that noise?".

A Little Bit of Bragging

The UW-Superior baseball season is just around the corner...in fact, they have their first official practice on Sunday. But that doesn't mean the team hasn't already been preparing. The team hosted a baseball camp for elementary-high school kids the weekend after Christmas, another camp two weekends ago, and will start another 5-weekend (3 sessions each over Sat/Sun) hitting and pitching academy...and you can't forget about the time in the weight room and captain's practice. Whew.

Eddy has worked incredibly hard to turn around his team's record. As most of you know, Eddy was suppose to start his job at UWS the day Isaac was born. So he was wrapping up a 9-year career of being CSS's assistant, starting his dream job of being a head baseball coach, and adjusting to being a new dad. He inherited a team that won 3 games the previous season. He was hired so late in the summer that he wasn't able to recruit any players, and even still won NINE games that first year. Eddy and his assistants hit recruiting hard and recruited 26 players for his second season, and won 17 games, which is the most wins UWS baseball has had since 1974. The team has bigger goals this season.

On a website that Eddy tracks, there was an article on season previews. Under Eddy's conference, the WIAC, the article had this to say:
"Perhaps lost in the WIAC headlines is what Wisconsin-Superior (17-23) head coach Eddy Morgan, a former St. Scholastica assistant and recruiting coordinator, has done in his short tenure. Morgan inherited a 3-35 (0-24 WIAC) program in 2007. Last year Superior had its highest win total since 1974, and now the Yellowjackets are in the mix for their first appearance in the four-team WIAC tournament. Last year UW-Superior beat UW-Oshkosh for the first time since 1973, serving notice that UW-Superior shouldn't be overlooked any longer."

The team has a blog and will be updating it throughout the season. Check it out here.

I am preparing myself to be the wife of very busy baseball coach. There will be a lot of time when it's just Isaac and I. It's easy for me to get frustrated and lonely. My hope is that, on those days, I'll come back to this post, to remind myself how proud I am of my husband.

Go Yellowjackets!

Chillin'

Here's a picture of Isaac eating breakfast and watching Seseme Street. What a life!

"Biggest Deer"

As Eddy was looking out the kitchen window this morning, he got all twitter-pated when he saw "the biggest deer I've ever seen" and proceeded to take about 37 pictures of it. If only he got that excited when I come home from shopping and show him the "really good bargain" I found and congratulated me on "saving x-amount of dollars". :)

First Kicks

Felt the baby kick in the early morning hours on Tuesday! A perk of working in a clinic--I used the doppler to listen to his/her heartbeat while at work yesterday. Feeling movement and hearing a heartbeat. What a day!

New Play Area

Isaac has started to enjoy laying and reading books in our bed. The process starts by him bringing one book at a time to Eddy's side of the bed, until about 15 books are piled up. Then he comes over to my side of the bed and climbs in. He makes sure he's under the blankets and has a pillow behind him. Pretty cute.

A trip...without Isaac

Eddy was scheduled to attend the American Baseball Coaches Association's National Convention in San Diego after Christmas. Thanks to our parents, I was able to go along (and not take Isaac). From what we know, both sets of grandparents had a great time...and we got a little R&R! We flew in New Year's Eve day. Explored an area called Seaport Village and went to the Gaslamp Quarter for dinner. We didn't do anything exciting when the clock struck midnight, but that was ok by us.

Thursday afternoon we took a trolley to visit relatives. One of my dad's sisters and her family live in San Diego. My grandparents were also there, so that was fun visiting them. That night we ate at the Kansas City Barbeque--the "dirty bar scene" in Top Gun was filmed there!

Friday we were planning on taking a ferry to Coronado Island, but it was pretty foggy, so instead we went to the San Diego Zoo. It was the one time on the trip where we said "Isaac would love this" over and over again! We took a bunch of pictures to show Isaac.

Ok, so you didn't think I wasn't going to take a picture of the flamingos, did you?!

The one picture we have of both of us

Saturday and Sunday were Eddy's busiest days of the conference. I read a book, relaxed, took a nap, and did more window-shopping at Seaport Village. Sunday my uncle and grandfather picked me up and we met another aunt and uncle who drove from St. Paul to San Diego for a visit, as well as my grandma. So, it was a mini-family reunion! It was cool to get together in San Diego when all but my aunt and uncle live in Minnesota!

Sunday evening we were able to meet a couple of friends who live in San Diego for drinks...well, they had drinks. I had Diet Coke. We had a great time. Eddy finished up the conference Monday morning and our flight left at 2pm. We were lucky when we booked our trip in that we flew out of Duluth and from Minneapolis we had a direct flight. Our flights were pretty uneventful. No horror stories this time. Got home a little after midnight. Isaac was sleeping in his crib, while Eddy's brother waited for us. We think Isaac grew 6 inches and his vocabulary expanded tremendously while we were gone! It's nice to be home.

16 1/2 weeks

All's well with baby #2. I had an appointment just after Christmas. Listening to the heart beat is awesome. The baby is measuring right on for size, but I had the doctor double-check, because I'm HUGE!! Many friends and family have tried to make me feel better by saying that happens with your second, but it's still hard not to compare. I'm 16 1/2 weeks now. With Isaac, I had Eddy take a picture of my non-existant-belly at 15 weeks, so I would remember that at one time I had a flat stomach. I'd post a side-by-side comparison, but it's too depressing. Oh, I'm being over dramatic, I know. Now I'm waiting to feel those first baby movements. Should be soon. According to one website, the baby is now the size of an avacado (approx 4 1/2 inches) and weighs 3 1/2 ounces. Kinda crazy to make that comparison!
