Projects

I've been on vacation, but we haven't left town. AND I've been able to send the kids to daycare on their usual days. This has allowed me to have time to get stuff done around the house that just takes time. I wish I could say that I spent a fair amount of time doing nothing, but I don't think I'm capable of that! With reorganizing one of the closets, I found some vinyl clings that I got from Uppercase Living a LONG time ago. I intended to do each project as the room I was going to put them in was done (ie, paint the upstairs bathroom before putting it up). Well, painting the upstairs bathroom isn't on my to-do list anytime soon, so I decided to spend some money at Michael's and get some frames.

I ended up buying a pre-matted collage frame and took the mat out. I then bought a piece of mat board and had it cut to size. For some reason I can't get the picture to rotate, but here it is! Just need to replace the brass towel bars! This is in the kids' bathroom. I wish Isaac could read--I wouldn't have to say "wash your hands" so often!

With Piper potty-training (!!), we decided to move the changing table out of her room. In its place is a great old dresser. I used another Uppercase Living decal on the front.
This bird is another decal. I bought a piece of scrapbook paper and put the decal on it and then put it in a frame. Unfortunately the picture doesn't do it justice. There's some sparkle on the paper; it's so pretty! This will sit on her dresser.
This decal was put on a piece of scrapbook paper and I bought an frame that's supposed to be used to display an old LP. I think it turned out great! This is my nightstand.
This project was a follow-up to one I did with the kids after Piper was born. In the top picture, Piper was 3 days old and Isaac was a few weeks shy of 3 years. We did the bottom picture a few days ago. Piper is 2 years and 2 months, and Isaac is 5. I love them!
This decal was put on Isaac's dresser.
Isaac got a couple of matted train pictures this week from our daycare provider. We picked up two picture frames and put them up in his room.

8 Years!

On August 16, Eddy and I celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary! We both were on vacation, but decided to send the kids to daycare. I'd like to say we spent a romantic day together, but that would only be a partial truth. We WERE together, but spent the majority of the day deep cleaning our house. Romantic, right?! Not exactly fun, but it was great to get it done.

I had seen that there was going to be a 5K in our neighborhood on our anniversary. I signed Eddy and I up and signed the kids up for the 100-yard dash. Never in a million years did I think we would do a 5K together on our anniversary! My best friend was willing to watch the kids while we ran. Well, mother nature had a different plan. There was a DOWNPOUR just as we were heading out. We decided to drop the kids off at Courtney's house. Luckily our race was only delayed 20 minutes. Eddy's time was great and mine was a little disappointing (I guess I shouldn't aim for a personal record every time!), but overall we had a good time. Courtney took pictures for us afterwards. The evening's activities didn't goexactly as I had hoped, but we still had a good time.

Isaac is FIVE!!

Isaac turned 5 on August 9! Our oldest is five years old. Seems like I was just getting used to saying he was four. He amazes us every day. He has grown physically and learned so much, especially this summer. He has definitely had a growth spurt or two (witnessed by the big pile of pants that will be passed to his younger cousin). And developmentally, he has been so fun to watch. He gets better at writing numbers and letters every day. He gets a monthly magazine of preK activities in the mail and loves to work on them with me. He is making connections between cause and effect and asks a lot of questions about how things work.

With being a late summer birthday, we've decided to "red shirt" him this year (aka, will not be going to kindergarten). We don't like the term "holding him back", because if anything, we think we are giving him a gift of another year. It was a very difficult decision to make, but feel very comfortable now. We've gotten a lot of support from friends and family with our decision, so that has been helpful. He will be attending St. Rose PreK. St. Rose is a Catholic elementary school in Proctor. They have a PreK program that is full day (8:10-2:30) and he will be going on the days that I work (M, T, Th). He will be able to ride a dedicated PreK/kindergarten bus back to daycare. We are so blessed to have found this program. It seems like it is going to fit our family very well. I get one more year of being home on Wednesdays and Fridays with both my kids, and yet he gets the benefit of going to school.

Isaac continues to be a thoughtful, kind kid. He is quick to say please and thank you. And when Piper starts to cry, he'll get her blanket and favorite stuffed animal. When Eddy and I are leaving, he is sure to give us a kiss and hug goodbye and will wave out the window as we drive away. We love having such a sweet boy in our lives. He loves spending time with his grandparents and likes talking to them on the phone. He is still loving everything trains. And Scooby Doo. But now he's added in super heroes. Any ones you can think of: Batman, Spiderman, Captain America. We've heard him ask for a "Batman train" before. Not sure if that's going to happen!

We celebrated with my side of the family the weekend before. He had a great time being the center of attention.

Then on his actualy birthday, we had Eddy's side of the family over. So many new toys and games to play with!
