Kindergarten!

Today was Isaac's first day of kindergarten. Preparations started awhile ago with school supply shopping. Then over the weekend I took out the next size up tub of clothes...definitely didn't need to buy any more clothes! Last night there was an open house at his school, so we could re-introduce ourselves to the teacher and drop off supplies. Isaac did really well, but I did feel bad at one point. He didn't realize who his teacher was--he thought he had a different teacher (put the wrong face the right name). Once home, he and I were going through the papers we got, and he got tearful that his room was down one hallway, and not down the other hall. But after a chat, he was ok. Isaac had gotten a book, "The Night Before Kindergarten" for his birthday, so we read that. That was my turn to get choked up.
But today, after some tears, a lot of discussion, and preparation, sending our oldest child was very anti-climatic! We got up a little early to take some pictures.

He LOVES his dolphin backpack and lunch box!

Papa even came over to wish Isaac good luck.

Big dag for our family!

The bus stop is right at the corner of our house. Our new neighbors have a son who is in Isaac's class, so they are both pretty excited about that.

Here it comes!

He's ready! Barely even said goodbye to me.

And yes, I was one of THOSE parents who drove to school to make sure he got to school ok.

School had a whole welcome committee there!

He pretty much walked right past me and to his room.

Saying good morning to his teacher and shaking her hand.

He sat on the carpet with his classmates, waved goodbye to me, and that was it.

No tears. No long goodbyes. No "I'll miss you"s. But this is what we prepared him for, right? I got a little choked up leaving the parking lot, but otherwise did ok. I took the day off work, so was able to meet the bus after school. He seemed to be pretty excited about school.

I asked him what he learned today, and he replied, "we learned how to be quiet during rest time". Sounds like a successful day! I'm so grateful for our awesome friends and family. Many of them called Isaac to wish him a good first day. And I got several emails and text messages from people, hoping things would go well for Isaac AND me! The next chapter of our life has definitely started.
